Can Excessive Caffeine Intake Lead to Illness?

Caffeine is a component found in coffee, cocoa beans, and some medications. It inhibits the function of substances in the body that calm the nerves. While the International Society of Sports Nutrition announced benefits such as improved sports performance, and the National Cancer Center of Japan highlighted a decreased risk of mortality in 2021, adaptability to caffeine varies among individuals, making it difficult to make generalizations.

☕️ On the other hand, habitual consumption of 300mg of caffeine (equivalent to 3-4 cups of coffee) or more can excessively stimulate the nerves dominant in the excited state, leading to symptoms such as dizziness, increased heart rate, insomnia, and diarrhea.
Moreover, it has been reported that for some individuals, it may increase the risk of hypertension and affect the risk of giving birth to low-birth-weight infants.
Additionally, due to its diuretic effect, it can lead to dehydration, potentially causing decreased muscle flexibility and impaired blood flow, increasing the likelihood of issues like lower back pain.
While small amounts of caffeine can have positive effects on health, habitual excessive intake can lead to a chain of health issues, so caution is necessary in daily life.

👉 Insomnia and pain caused by such factors are beyond the scope of Seitai, but based on the health knowledge possessed by our Tune staff, we can provide advice on daily life through counseling. If you have concerns about physical discomfort or anything else, please feel free to contact us.
