Characteristics of People Who Never Feel Shoulder Stiffness

For those who have suffered from chronic shoulder stiffness for years, it may seem unbelievable, but there are people who have never experienced shoulder stiffness since birth. As humans, why does such individual variation occur? Have you ever wondered, “Why do only my shoulders get stiff? Is there something wrong with my body?” If so, please rest assured. Just as there are reasons for developing shoulder stiffness, there are reasons for not experiencing it.

First and foremost is the flexibility of the scapula (shoulder blade). The flexibility of the scapula refers not only to the range of motion of moving the arms up and down but also the range of motion in the left-right or twisting directions. For example, can you scratch your back when it itches? Can you easily tie your hair or take off a shirt? When these daily movements gradually become difficult, it is a sign that the flexibility of the scapula is compromised. People without shoulder stiffness maintain soft and flexible scapulas, ensuring sufficient range of motion for their arms.

Next is posture. Ideally, when viewed from the side, the position of the shoulders should be vertical to the ground in relation to the earlobes. If the shoulders are forward of the earlobes, it indicates a poor posture commonly known as rounded shoulders or hunchback. This posture puts localized stress on the muscles from the neck to the shoulders, leading to shoulder stiffness. Additionally, it can be a cause of reduced range of motion in the neck, limiting the ability of people with poor posture to move their heads up or sideways.

At Handless Seitai, our treatments aim for the fundamental improvement of pain from spinal misalignment, and concurrently, they are effective in posture correction. If you compare yourself in the mirror before and after the treatment, you will likely observe that your body’s misalignment has improved, and your posture has transformed into a more beautiful alignment. Curing shoulder stiffness is the first step toward obtaining a graceful posture. We encourage you to experience Handless Seitai at least once.
